The introduction of the Bowflex Treadclimber series was definitely an innovation in the world of fitness equipment. The combined treadmill and stair climber design is visually appealing and physically challenging. Bowflex offers variants of this machine - for the purpose of this article we will compare the 1000, 3000, 5000 and 5500.

The price of a Treadclimber varies based on design, features and functions with the TC 1000 (basic model) priced at the low end and the TC 5500 being a high end model. All these models can take up to 185 lbs except the TC5500 which can take up to 217 lbs as the maximum weight.

The TC1000 has the basic electronic functions which are speed, distance and time. The TC3000 has 6 functions: Speed, Distance, Time, calories per Minute, Total Calories and Total steps while the TC5000 has 2 additional features which is the climb indicator and heart rate.

In addition to all of features mentioned above the TC5500 has 9 landmark challenges. Further, both the TC5500 & 5000 have a wireless heart rate monitor with a chest strap. A quick start feature is also available in these two models - this feature recalls your settings and weight from the last time you used the machine.

The climb indicator which is a feature on the TC5000 and TC5500 visually tracks the elevation you cover in feet.

Since the TC 5500 is at the high end of the treadclimbers it has the very cool goal oriented technology function which is similar to a memory console which assists in tracking and monitoring progress. Compare results with previous weeks and other users, personalize your profile and compare with another profile. The maximum number of profiles that can be saved is three.

The electronic and hydraulic warranty also varies: a minimum of 1 yr up to a maximum of 3 yrs depending on the model. I recommend that you read the warranty documents carefully for as with any mechanical equipment, the possibility exists that you may have to ship parts back in the event of malfunction or a replacement is required due to wear, tear or defect.
