History of the Bowflex
Known for their late night infomercials, Bowflex is one of the most recognizable names in at-home workout machines. The Bowflex is designed to increase the ease of one’s strength training. The first conception of the machine was based off a patent created by a San Francisco engineer of Ethiopian descent. The very first Bowflex home gym was marketed in 1986. By 2002, the success of the company warranted a move to the New York Stock Exchange.
While many of these machines utilize both weights and pulleys, the Bowflex relies instead on polymer rods that create tension and resistance. One of the main attractions of this particular system is that it is very compact. While an entire set of weights, machines, and accessories would take up a significant amount of room in your home, a Bowflex is known for being small and easy to store. In an effort to augment there home fitness system, Bowflex has also introduced a line of Bowflex dumbbells that allow you to have a range of weights in one compact unit.
